Hope Came When God Answered a Mother’s Prayer

The path to Annet's home winds through a quiet village in northern Uganda, where mud homes and fields tell stories of both hardship and hope. As we gathered with Annet and her mother, Justina, we asked them to share how life had changed over the past few years.

Justina smiled warmly and welcomed us. "Thank you for coming. Welcome in the name of Jesus.”

Then she began to tell her story . . . “One day I heard there was a Bible study group meeting in our village. I went, and through those lessons I learned to trust in God."

Not long afterward, tragedy struck. Her husband died, leaving her alone to care for their four children. The grief was overwhelming, and she wondered how she would survive.

"I remember sitting at one of our Bible cluster meetings thinking, 'God, have You left me alone, or are You still with me?' I asked Him to give me some sign that He was still with me.”

Several weeks later, an unexpected vehicle pulled into her compound. "Our visitors asked about my children and they chose Annet for the EWT child sponsorship program."

For Justina, that moment meant far more than financial help. "That was God's answer. I knew He had not forgotten me."

The sponsorship allowed Annet to attend school, but it also renewed her mother's hope. Instead of giving up after her husband's death, Justina found the strength to move forward. She worked hard, was able to send her other children to school, and even completed the family home that had been left unfinished.

When we turned to Annet, she spoke softly about what God had done for her. “I thank God for His love and mercy. Of all the children, I was chosen. Sometimes I can hardly believe it—or that people on the other side of the world would love me.”

Annet has embraced every opportunity. She ranks second in her class, sings on her school’s worship team, and is growing strong in the Lord. Looking back, she and her mother marvel at what has unfolded in their lives.
