The Joy of Loving and Giving
Everlyn and her mother-in-law ran to meet us when we arrived at their village home. They couldn’t stop talking about all that God had done for them! Just months before, they had laid awake at night, listening to the rain dripping through their dilapidated grass-thatched roof. Not only did they feel wet and cold, they had to face a muddy mess on their dirt floor when the mornings dawned. But today, a sturdy new metal roof was in place . . . a roof paid for with the hard work of Everlyn’s oldest son.
Everlyn’s heart swelled with pride as she thought about Hudson. He had recently graduated from the EWT Child Sponsorship Program, and she was celebrating not just his accomplishments, but the journey that he had been on. For years, his sponsor had faithfully provided for his education; ensured he had daily meals; and helped him discover the truth that God loved him and had a plan for his life.
Everlyn recalled all the nights she had cried out to God, asking Him to open doors for her children and give them a future that she didn’t have. Now, with joy, she could say, “God has truly answered my prayers! Sponsorship has changed not just Hudson’s life—it has changed all my family!”
Just to tell you a little more about Hudson . . . he had the opportunity to continue his education beyond highs school with the help of his sponsor, and earn a certification in plumbing earlier this year. Soon after, he began to build a business as a plumber and landscaper . . . earning enough money to put a new roof on his mother’s house and send his three younger siblings to a good boarding school in town.
Determined to pass on what he has received, Hudson told us, “I’ve learned the value of education—God used it to change my life. Now I want the same for my brothers and sister and others around me. I know what it feels like to be helped and loved, and now it’s time for me to be the one who gives. My sponsors taught me so much!”
Today, we celebrate all Hudson’s successes, but especially his beautiful heart to be the hands and feet of Jesus!
