Widowed but Not Alone: Agnes’ Journey with God
When Agnes first joined our Discipleship Program, she couldn't read a single word. Life was already full of hardship, but her hunger to know God was greater than her insecurity of being uneducated. Determined to grow in her faith, she sat through the lessons, week after week. And slowly and patiently, she began to read the Bible, the first book she ever held in her hands.
God's Word became her anchor and later her comfort when she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her husband. Left alone with six children to raise, she faced a mountain to overcome. But Agnes didn’t give up. She turned to the God she had come to know—the One who is a husband to the widow and a father to the orphan.
Through tears and faith, she kept reading Scripture. It comforted her. It taught her. It became her strength. “The Bible is what has kept me firm and strong all these years,” she says with conviction.
Agnes later joined our EWT Farming Program, determined to build a future for her children. Her first harvest brought income that allowed her to buy goats and pay school fees. The following year, she used her earnings to purchase a plow and oxen, further increasing her productivity. Each season was a step forward, and each blessing was a reminder of God’s hand in her life.
Today, Agnes has a steady income, and all six of her children are in school. Her field is full, her heart is full, and her faith is stronger than ever.
She named her cow “Gracious”, because, in her words, “That is what God has been to me.”
Agnes stands tall—not because life has been easy, but because her foundation is strong. She knows the greatness of God and that has changed the way she sees life. “He is the Rock I stand on,” she says, “and I can never thank Him enough!”
