The Power of God’s Word Taking Root in the lives of Emmanuel & Susan

In the community of Chewente, Emmanuel and Susan have been faithfully serving the Lord for the past three years. Life has not been without struggles—like times of drought and illness—but even in hardship, their home has become a place filled with laughter, warmth, and the chatter of visitors.

Everyone who meets Susan is struck by her liveliness. Yet, she will tell you that her joy today is the fruit of transformation.

“Before discipleship came to our area,” she recalls, “I would hear the Word on Sundays, but I didn’t really understand it. I was filled with anger and was short-tempered. I didn’t like people and kept to myself. I was shy and lacked confidence. But the Word has changed me. Now I have so many friends and feel so much love in my heart. I can stand boldly. I can even teach!” Susan continued, “Even in our marriage, love has increased, and our children are respectful. God has truly changed us.”

Emmanuel, who now serves as a leader of one of our discipleship groups, nods in agreement. “When discipleship came,” he explains, “it changed everything—my ministry and my relationships with others. The Word has united our community where before there was no love. For me personally, I can now teach the Bible with freedom and prepare lessons with clarity. The Word of God has brought life and unity among us.”

When asked what comes next, their eyes shine with hope. Emmanuel shares his dream of growing deeper in God’s Word and evangelizing the community. Susan’s voice rises with excitement: “I want to go everywhere and tell everyone what God has done for me. God has transformed my life, and I can’t keep it to myself.”

Though they continue to face challenges, Emmanuel and Susan’s story is one of love, renewal, and vision. In their family, their church, and their wider community, the fruit of discipleship is evident—unity, boldness, joy, and an ever-growing love.

Their testimony is a living reminder that when God’s Word takes root, hearts soften, families grow stronger, and even entire communities can be transformed.
