Ambrose Opio
Grade: Primary 7
Sex: Male
Location: Akalo, Northern Uganda
Sponsorship Need: Boarding
Ambrose is the elder of two boys in a family from Akalo, Northern Uganda. When he was very young, his father responded poorly to tuberculosis treatment and developed severe mental illness. The responsibility of providing for the household fell solely on Ambrose’s mother, who faced a difficult situation with little land and limited opportunities to earn an income. Though she worked hard, her earnings were never enough to provide even the children’s basic needs. She wanted so much more for her sons but felt trapped in a cycle of poverty and uncertainty.
Ambrose joined EWT’s Child Sponsorship Program in 2018, which has been a tremendous blessing to his family. His social worker describes him as hardworking, well-liked, and unusually responsible for a boy his age. He has thrived in school, and his favorite activities are football, music, dance, and drama.
Tragically, Ambrose’s father’s mental health continued to deteriorate. A few years ago, he set fire to their hut with the family inside, and his whereabouts have remained unknown ever since. Thankfully, Ambrose, his brother, and their mother survived the incident and were able to move in with relatives in another village.
Recently, Ambrose transitioned to a new school farther away from home and now needs a boarding sponsor to stand alongside his education sponsor. By supporting Ambrose, you will not only allow him the chance to continue his education, but you will also restore hope to his entire family by reminding them of the love and care of Jesus.
Ambrose needs a boarding sponsor for $35/month.
