Yes! We Are Now Pupils Who Go to School!

Pupils . . . that's what kids in Uganda call themselves if they get a chance to go to school. It's a source of pride and a blessing in their lives. But being a pupil was something that seemed impossible for most of the children you see in these pictures until a few weeks ago.

That's when we opened the doors of our brand new school! I wish you could have been there to see all the excitement! There was a sense of disbelief. How could it be that right there, smack dab in the middle of all their scattered mud huts, sat a beautiful new school!

Already, every classroom is filled to full capacity with students and a great staff is in place to teach and care for the children. We have 240 boys and girls in all. Many are wearing their beautiful uniforms and the rest are eagerly awaiting for theirs to arrive.

Just five days ago, we had a school dedication that brought the surrounding community out for a time of singing, dancing, and celebration. The kids really astounded us with their presentations . . . even the youngest children stood up with confidence, presenting songs and speeches in English (a language they had just started learning five weeks ago). After hearing them, we all felt like King David dancing in the streets to celebrate the awesomeness of God!

It's an incredible thing to think that these kids are being given an opportunity to soar and reach their God-given potential in life. We have no doubt that they will . . . all they needed was a chance!!!

All to the glory of God,

Betty Jo
