You Can Hear Shouts of Praise for the Gift of Clean Water

To see the joy on the faces of people who have received the gift of clean water is a thrilling thing! And to watch them singing, dancing, and bubbling with excitement reminds you that a miracle has taken place. That’s what happened earlier this year in the Community of Awara where a well was drilled!

Before the well, the women there walked long distances to fetch water, either from a dirty swamp or a contaminated lake. It was so challenging and took up most of their days, leaving them with little time for other things.

Lilly shared, “Water was such a big problem. We used to get up in the middle of the night to fetch water and not return until the middle of the day. We would struggle so much with the animals around the water, and then exhaust ourselves carrying the water back for such a long way.”

Water-borne illnesses, like typhoid, also ran rampant throughout Awara, often causing serious health problems and sometimes death. Stomach aches were an everyday occurrence, and bathing was a pure luxury. One woman told us, “We walked all day to get water but never had enough to wash ourselves. We felt dirty and ashamed. Lice were after us, and we were always itchy.”

How we praise God that all of this has changed. Clean, sweet water is now flowing right in the middle of the Awara Community! People are healthy and can bathe, and women have their lives back to do other things.

Scovia couldn’t stop beaming as she said, “This well has brought life to our community, and I shout ‘Glory to God!’ He has seen our tears and reached down to us! He has rescued us and brought joy and peace. We are so happy and thank God for the people in the US who did this for us. They make us know how much God loves us!”
