The People of Amorigoga Experience a Miracle

Palm branches were swaying, people were singing, and water was splashing! The people of Amorigoga had something to celebrate. Many had never drunk from a water well in their lives, and now one had been drilled right in the middle of their village.

Before, their only source of water was a small swamp, miles away in the bushes. It was filled with red worms and often used as a drinking hole for animals. The women would leave at three o’clock in the morning to make the long trips. Ten hours later they would return home in a state of exhaustion, after hauling fifty-pound jugs of dirty water on their heads.

Esther told us, “All us women used to move such long distances during the dark, and there were always long lines at the swamp. There was nothing else we could do but go there, because there was nowhere else to get water. Our biggest fear was that when dry season came, the swamp would dry up.”

Janet added, “Before we were so dirty and it felt so bad. We would sleep without bathing except one time a week. We needed our water for drinking and cooking and felt ashamed of ourselves. We wanted to feel beautiful but we never did. We were just always dirty and sick.”

But Praise God, not any more! Clean, sweet water is now flowing from a deep well that is only a short walk away for the people of Amorigoga. “Look at us now,” Esther said. “We’re all so healthy and beautiful! Everyone is filled with happiness and amazement at what God has done for us!”

Calvin, one of the village leaders, added, “We had always hoped and prayed for this and now it has come to our lives! May God bless the people who did this for us!”
